The former Brownlow Medalist made his unexpected return at the awards, and Ben Cousins says he feels “extremely privileged” to be back at the AFL’s night of nights.

According to the Dailymail, The former West Coast Eagles captain, who battled addiction and mental health concerns during and after his retirement from football, has spent some time under custody.

The 44-year-old, who took home the game’s top honor in 2005, arrived at the awards ceremony in Perth with date Kelley Hayes on Sunday night looking dapper in a dark dinner suit and bowtie.

Kelley looked stunning in a slinky red gown walking the red carpet on the former Eagles star’s arm.

Cousins remarked on the red carpet, “I’m simply incredibly fortunate that I got the opportunity to come to one of football’s finest evenings.” “It’s going to be a big night, and since I haven’t attended one of the football industry nights in a while, I’m looking forward to it,” he added.

The former AFL great acknowledged that a lot of preparation had gone on “behind the scenes” so that he could attend the sport’s biggest event, but he constantly emphasized how thrilled he was to be there.

Cousins accepted the offer to attend the Brownlow, held in his birthplace of Perth, which surprised both fans and current players.

Nic Naitanui of the West Coast commented, “I honestly forgot that he was coming tonight, but I haven’t seen him yet.”

He is currently employed in the demolition sector and claims that playing football again in Perth’s Metro Football League has helped him rebuild his life.
