Former Rugby Star Doddie Weir And Wife Kathy Have 3 Sons, All Of Them Followed In Dad’s Footsteps

Doddie Weir and his wife, Kathy Weir, returned to Murrayfield as thousands cheered from the stands. Alongside them were their 3 sons, Hamish, Ben, and Angus.

Similarly, his family escorted him onto the ground with a rugby ball ahead of Scotland’s match versus New Zealand.

The 52-year-old’s appearance on the field honored the fifth anniversary of his charity, the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, of which his wife Katherine is also a trustee.

After his playing career, Doddie opted into farming with his wife, and they are the wool keepers at Hypnos, who also run their cattle farm on the Scottish Borders.

Likewise, the former rugby star has lived on a farm all of his life and studied farming at Edinburgh, so he has some knowledge of farming.

Former Rugby Star Doddie Weir Wife Kathy Weir Works At Farm

Doddie Weir, his wife Kathy, and their three children reside on their farm between Lauder and Melrose in the Borders. His wife manages to keep the cattle, and her horses, and works with an outside catering firm all while attempting to keep Doddie on track!

Similarly, in the “Meet the Farmers” series, Doddie and Kathy Weir discussed how they operate their cattle farm in the Scottish Borders and what it means to learn where their wool is going.

They have a small flock of 130 ewes on their 300-acre farm, which is 950 feet above sea level and is a combination of Greyface, Cheviot, and Suffolk Blue Leicester crossbreeds.

In the fields, cattle and sheep both graze together, which is beneficial because cattle prefer long grass while sheep prefer short grass.

Despite being a passionate farmer, Doddie needed Kathy and their three boys’ help to maintain things as organized as possible after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2016.

He keeps an eye on the farm, watches the lambs grow, and can operate the farm equipment to mow the tall grass. He did, however, claim that his wife, Kathy, puts in a lot of effort because she takes care of Doddie and the house as well.

Kathy Weir Is A Trustee At My Name’5 Doddie Foundation

Doddie’s wife, Kathy (nee Hutchinson), Weir, is one of the trustees who assisted the former rugby player in founding the charity My Name’5 Doddie.

The life of rugby’s most recognizable personality changed in June 2017 after he discovered he had Motor Neuron Disease.

Doddie has been determined from the start to help other patients and to find ways to improve research into this, as of yet, incurable disease.

Later, in November 2017, Doddie and his trustees established the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, a registered charity. Their goal is to build a world free of MND.

The number “5” has a special meaning for the Foundation. The Foundation’s name is derived from Doddie’s playing number for his clubs, Melrose and Newcastle Falcons, and the jersey he wore during his 61 international caps for Scotland.

Doddie Weir’s Three Children: Hamish, Angus And Ben

Former Scottish rugby player Doddie and his wife, Kathy, have three sons, Hamish, Angus, and Ben. Four years after their wedding, the couple welcomed their first son, Hamish, who is now 21.

Well, the eldest Weir is currently making headlines for his exceptional skill as he follows in his father’s footsteps and plays for the Melrose first team this season.

Despite inheriting his father’s height, Hamish is no second-rower and is frequently used on the wing or at fullback due to his quick speed and power.

Their second son, Angus, is now 20 years old, while their youngest son, Ben, is 19.

Kathy Weir Father George Hutchinson: Founded Hutchinson Environmental Solution

Kathy comes from Bellingham, near Hexham, where her family has founded a profitable drainage firm, ‘Hutchinson Environmental Solutions.’

Her father, George Hutchinson, founded and operated the company for years before selling it in 2011.

The company was purchased by Peter Stedman, an operations director, who formed a partnership with Doodie Weir, and together they wrote a new page in the firm’s now 44-year history.

Before the collaboration, George’s son-in-law, Weir, was appointed commercial director.
