Grand Rapids Charged With Patrick Loyala Murder
Christopher Schurr was suspected of Loyala’s murder after his face was seen on the video, but his identity was not confirmed. However, Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom reversed course and confirmed Christopher as a killer on Monday. Loyala’s family, lawyers, and activists requested the officer’s name.
Winstrom said in a statement that he was acting “in the interest of transparency, reducing ongoing speculation, and avoiding any further confusion.”
However, no information about Schurr’s time with the Grand Rapids Police Department has been released.
Schurr is still on “administrative leave, stripped of his police powers. He will remain so until the conclusion of the Michigan State Police investigation into potential criminal charges.
